Setting up the Kanopy app on your Apple TV
Download the Kanopy app from the Apple TV App Store on a supported Apple TV, then launch Kanopy.
If you don't have a Kanopy account, select Get Started and follow the on-screen prompts to create an account. Learn more about creating a Kanopy account.
If you already have an account, select Log In and use one of these methods to log in:
- Enter your email address and Kanopy password, then select Log In.
- In a web browser, go to www.kanopy.com/link and enter the code displayed on your TV. (You'll be prompted to log in first if you haven't already done so in that browser.)
- In the Kanopy mobile app, go to More > Link Your Device and enter the code displayed on your TV.
If you have a 3rd generation or older Apple TV, you can use AirPlay to watch Kanopy films on your Apple TV:
- Log into the Kanopy iOS app on another device.
- Select a film and press Play.
- Tap the AirPlay icon in the top-right corner of the screen and select your Apple TV.
To control closed captions and subtitles (if available), tap to the right of the AirPlay icon, then select an option.
To stop AirPlay, tap the AirPlay icon again, then select your mobile device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I access Kanopy if I don't belong to a subscribing library?
No, you need to be a member of a subscribing library to access the films on Kanopy. Find out if your library participates.
How do I access my other library memberships?
Go to Settings in the top menu bar, then scroll down to the "My Library" section and select a library to access its content.
Can I log in to my device with multiple Kanopy accounts at the same time?
No, you can only be logged in to one Kanopy account on your device at a time. To use a different Kanopy account on that device, you'll need to log out first.
Or, to access multiple libraries from your account, log in to your Kanopy account in a browser and add each library as a new membership under "My Memberships."
Can I log in to my account on multiple devices at the same time?
Yes, you can log in to your account on as many devices as you like.
How do I log out of my account?
Go to Settings in the top menu bar, then select Log out.
How do I know if a film has closed captioning?
Select a film to see its details. The "CC" icon will be displayed below the title if it's closed captioned.
How do I access closed captions and subtitles?
Swipe down on the remote's trackpad while a film is playing, then go to the Subtitles menu to enable or disable subtitles.
How do I add films to my watchlist?
Select a film to open its details, then select + Watchlist.
How do I access my watchlist?
Go to My Lists in the top menu bar, then scroll to the "Watchlist" section. Films added to your watchlist from any device appear here.
How do I turn on parental controls?
To set up parental controls, visit kanopy.com/parentalcontrols in a web browser. Once enabled, parental controls will be active when you log in to Kanopy on any device.
Why is the picture being cut off?
This can happen when the aspect ratio of the film you're watching doesn't match your TV's aspect ratio. Adjusting your TV's picture settings, or using a "fit to screen" option (if your TV has one) can resolve this issue.
