Due to high user demand, we are building a feature to allow users to temporarily view films in an offline environment on their mobile device. We do not have all the technology built for this, but we will be updating this section with more information as this feature becomes available in the coming months.
How will this work?
This feature will allow users to view films in an offline environment for a period of time to be determined, but no longer than 7 days, depending on the title. A title will only be available on one mobile device at a time per user, available only through Kanopy’s mobile apps on iOS, Android, and Amazon (this feature will not be available via the website, desktop/laptop computers, or TV apps). Once the offline viewing window expires, the downloaded film will automatically be removed from the user’s offline viewing menu. If the user wishes to continue viewing that same title in an offline environment after the viewing window has ended, they will need to redownload it to their mobile device.
How will this affect my play triggers?
Each offline viewing download will behave the same as a play trigger in the online environment - the library payment to Kanopy will be triggered at the moment of download completion.
Will DRM-protection still be in place?
The content will still be protected through our DRM container and the video player - it will not leave the Kanopy environment.
