The Kanopy app is available in the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad devices. In order to use the app, you will need a Kanopy account that has an active library membership. Select one of the following to get started:
I am a member of a public library
I am a student or professor of a university/college

- Open the app, tap Get Started, then Find Library.
- To locate a library near you, share your location when prompted on the app. If you would prefer to not share your location you can skip this step and search for your library manually instead. To do this, type your library name and select it from the list, or search using your city name or zip code.

Enter your library card number, and if required, your library card password/PIN and tap Next.

Complete the signup process by creating your Kanopy account.
Your account can be created using your Google or Facebook login, or can be done directly on Kanopy using your email address and password. Your password will need to be at least 6 characters.
- After creating your account, you’ll receive a verification email in your inbox. Click on the link in this email to verify your email address.
- You're all set! Select a film to start watching.
- Open the app, tap Get Started, then Find University.
- Type your university or college name and select it from the results.

You will be redirected to your university or college’s login screen - follow the prompts to log in. (Note: if your university or college authenticates using VPN, please ensure that you have signed in through your school's VPN.)

What are the system requirements for the app?
In order to use the Kanopy app, you will need to be running at least Apple iOS 9.0.
What Dashboard features are available, and how do I access these?
You will be able to access your Watchlist and Memberships through the iOS app. To access your Watchlist tap on My Lists at the bottom of your screen, and to access your Memberships, tap on More.
How do I access my viewing history?
Your full Viewing History is currently only available through the browser site. On the app, you will have access to a Continue Watching section where you will be able to find films that you have not yet completed. This section can be accessed under My Lists.
Can the films be downloaded to my device for offline viewing?
You do need an Internet connection in order to play the films. They cannot be downloaded to your device.
How can I only allow playback on WiFi?
Tap on the More button and select Settings. Switch the Cellular Data toggle off (the switch will appear orange when on). When this is off, you will not be able to stream on the app unless you are connected to WiFi.
How can I adjust video quality?
Go to More > Settings and select Video Quality. Two options will be displayed - Auto and Basic. When Auto is selected, the video will play at the highest quality possible (more information about video quality on Kanopy can be found here). When Basic is selected, the video quality will play at a lower resolution.
How do I enable closed captions/subtitles?
While the film is playing, tap on the speech bubble that appears at the top right corner of your screen. Select English (or your preferred language if available), and you will automatically be brought back to the video with closed captions/subtitles playing on your screen.
