Kanopy Help

Using Kanopy's accessibility features

Closed captions, subtitles, and transcripts

While a film is playing, you can enable closed captions or subtitles and customize their appearance. Closed captions are not available for all titles.

Caption styles can be customized within Kanopy on the Kanopy website and Samsung TV. On other platforms, use your device's caption style settings.

On the Kanopy website, you can also display a transcript of the film that automatically advances as it plays.

Audio description

Some films have audio descriptions available. If a film has an audio description track, enable it by selecting Settings, then Audio, then English (Audio Description).

Keyboard navigation

You can navigate Kanopy with a keyboard or keyboard emulator on the Kanopy website, mobile apps, and TV apps (except Roku—however, Roku's mobile app lets you control your device with a virtual keyboard and remote).

Screen readers

Kanopy is compatible with screen readers, like NVDA, JAWS, Android TalkBack, and iOS Voiceover.

Zoom and text size

On most devices, if you enable your device's zoom and text size settings, they will apply while browsing Kanopy.

On the Android app, you can long press a menu item to see a tooltip with its full name. This can be useful if increasing the font size causes the menu text to be truncated.

On Apple TV, Kanopy supports Hover Text to magnify and customize on-screen text.
